2016 SOUL TRAIN AWARDS: RED CARPET HIGHLIGHTS


The “Soul Train Red Carpet” was one of the highlights of a fantastic 4-day weekend event, leading up to “The Soul Train Awards.” Every year, the hottest entertainers/celebrities walk this classic carpet, as they make their way to the awards ceremony. This year’s red carpet was held at the Orleans Arena, in Las Vegas. Among the many great artists who walked the red carpet were 90’s R&B singer, Carl Thomas, Bell Biv Devoe, Bobby Brown, Angie Stone, Gospel Great - Bobby Jones, Tito Jackson, Dru Hill, After 7, Elise Neal, Soul Train legacy – Tony Cornelius, Nicci Gilbert, KeKe Wyatt, Kevin Ross, Tank, Jay Ellis, Damien Hall, Claire Sulmers (Fashion Blogger) and Ro James, to name a few.




The fun began on Thursday, November 3rd, as the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay kicked off the 4-day weekend, featuring performances by Monica, Yuma and Jazmine Sullivan. The day also included Toyota sponsored “Acoustically Speaking.” The “Soul Train Music Festival” was held on Friday, November 4th at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. Featured guest were Tyrese, Jill Scott, Anthony Hamilton and Tish Hyman.

On Saturday, November 5th the "Soul Train Day Party" featured Bell Biv DeVoe and Kid Capri at the Daylight Beach Club at Mandalay Bay and “The Comedy Get Down” highlighted special guests “Cedric ‘The Entertainer’, Eddie Griffin, D.L. Hughley, George Lopez and Charlie Murphy.


All events led up to the “Soul Train Awards”, held at the Orleans Arena, on Sunday, November 6th, hosted by the renowned Erykah Badu, who also hosted last year’s award show. The event gives recognition to entertainers who have made a great impact in the industry, from past to present. Honorees were Brandy, receiving the “Lady of Soul Recipient” Award; Teddy Riley receiving the “Legend Award.” The award show included special performances, among many, by Jill Scott, Anthony Hamilton, Tyrese, Monica, Jazmine Sullivan, Doug E. Fresh, Yuna, Candice Boyd, Ro James, Mase, Erik Benet, along with a great night of comedy, with performances from Eddie Griffin, Cedric ‘The Entertainer,’ and D.L. Hugley, to name a few.


Since 1987, the Soul Train Awards has paid tribute to some of the best black artists in music and entertainment.
