Born Divine Talks on His Indie Boom Tour

Hip-Hop Artist and Entrepreneur, Born Divine, was born and raised in East Baltimore, until he was about thirteen years old. In 1989, his mom, being a single parent, would move Born away from the inner city streets, away from an environment which attracted trouble. He was introduced to hip-hop, at an early age, around eight or nine, in the 1980’s. According to the talented artist, his uncles had a band, in which one of his younger uncles played bass guitar, giving him exposure to music. “When I was younger, they were always playing songs by Parliament and they were also into the Michael Jackson and Prince era where they were playing a lot of cover songs. Times changed and you had people like Grand Master Flash and other artists like that coming out. My uncle came home one day with some turntables and he started to DJ at parties. This was my first time, as a child, seeing turntables,” the artist cites.

Born Divine’s mentor, Cappadonna from the Wu-Tang Clan, brought the artist into the professional side of music. He has also toured with the entire Clan, as well as with many independent artists from all over the world. Utilizing his creativity, the talented artist has put together the Indie Boom Tour. I asked Born to elaborate on the tour. “Indie Boom was a vision years ago and once the vision started coming into fruition, I said we need a total platform for these artists, so that’s where the explosion tour comes in. Last year was our first annual tour. It was a great tour and we have the reality DVD out, of the tour. This year we are very excited because we have an energy drink which is a primary sponsor of the tour this year. We also have the National Hotels Association coming back this year, which was a sponsor last year. That means we’re doing something right and we are going to be able to take these artists to a newer territory than what we had last year, to get them more exposure and markets. So I am extremely excited about this year, on the Fourth of July, beginning in Jersey,” he explained.

Born Divine hopes to one day tour in the UK, Germany, Canada and Brazil. “I’m looking forward to being connected sometime next year, so that the explosion tour 2016 will end up being a world tour. I want to also find some good solid artists who I can bring to the label and be able to have that established as the world tour for them, so that we can all go together and take some people to greater heights,” he said. His ultimate goal is to be able to produce a star from ground up.
